Position:
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Silverton Arts Association seeks a dynamic and experienced Executive Director with excellent leadership, fundraising, relationship, and administrative skills. We’re looking for someone who’s innovative, strategic, solution-oriented, collaborative, and inspired by our mission, vision, and values.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Executive Director of the Silverton Arts Association provides the leadership, inspiration, and strategic direction to enable SAA to achieve its annual and long-term goals for arts programming, financial sustainability, and community engagement. The Executive Director’s responsibilities include building operations, arts education, member development, and fundraising, working collaboratively with our dedicated Board of Directors to achieve all goals.
The ideal candidate has five to ten years experience in the development field, ideally in the arts, a proven record of fundraising, excellent written and dynamic oral communication skills, strong managerial skills to support staff and volunteers, an ability to manage multiple projects, comfort working in a fast-paced, agile environment, and a passion for education and the arts.
COMPENSATION AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
We are a small but vibrant arts-based nonprofit serving the beautiful town of Silverton, Oregon. The Arts Association Executive Director’s work can be performed in a combination of on and off-site hours, with some work being done from home. As the organization grows, this position may also grow accordingly, but our current expectation and financial capacity is for 20 hrs/week at $40,000/year.
Onboarding will be assisted by board officers who will provide guidance and establish milestones for performance evaluation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
LEADERSHIP AND BOARD RELATIONS
Set operational and cultural tone for the organization through modeling transparency and communication.
Collaborate with the board to develop long-term vision, strategy, and goals for SAA.
Demonstrate clear and transparent communication with members, volunteers, and board.
Work closely with the board to develop and implement our programs and their funding sources.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Act as SAA liaison to other non-profits and local government officials and agencies.
Lead public relations and marketing efforts aimed at growing both membership, educational class offerings, art exhibition
Engage with and cultivate relationships with major individual, foundation, and corporate donors.
FUNDRAISING AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
Create and execute short and long-term fundraising plans including individual major donors, foundations, and public sources.
In collaboration with the board, develop and manage the fundraising and financial strategies of the organization.
Review financial status and make recommendations to the board monthly.
Prepare an annual budget with assistance from treasurer and manage organization’s resources within the budget guidelines.
Secure, administer, monitor and report on all grants as required by funders.
ART CENTER FACILITIES OPERATIONS
Provide management oversight of building operations and maintenance for both the Silverton Arts Center and Park House.
Manage any staff, resident artists, and contractors serving the Arts Association and its programs.
Supports and interacts with artists, visitors, and volunteers to promote and support the Art Center.
Implement strategies to promote our Community Art Space and exhibits.
Provide oversight for all activities and events taking place on Art Center grounds.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in business, public administration, non-profit management, or related field or relevant experience.
Strong background in arts, industrial design, humanities, sciences, or related areas, e.g., early childhood education.
EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES
Demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with the board, community, and volunteers.
Proven track record in strategic planning and development, finance management, project management, and policy development.
Visionary and innovative thinker.
Experience leading and growing an organization.
Event planning/management experience.
Demonstrates success leading a multi-year fundraising effort.
Ability to act as a public spokesperson for and interpret the mission and programs of SAA to the community at large.
Communicates effectively both orally and in writing.
Service in or leadership of volunteer-driven organizations.
Ability to manage time and handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and independently.
Computer literacy and experience with tools such as Squarespace, Google Workspace Suite, Social Media, and Finance Applications.
TIMELINE FOR HIRING
Applications may be submitted January 1st through January 31st, 2025. Our hiring committee will review applications and begin reaching out to applicants to schedule interviews in February. Our hope is to fill this position by Q2 2025.
