Resident  Artist Summer Program

The Silverton Arts Association is kept open throughout the week by resident artists who work in the Borland Community Arts Space in a dedicated corner. They welcome visitors, spin records, engage the creative community, and work in a space that they can adjust to their specific needs. Available equipment includes a drafting desk, Wacom drawing tablets, a printer, and camera and projector system for displaying their art in-progress to the Community Space.

For Summer 2024, we’re piloting a new version of the resident artist program that includes a monthly stipend, access to the studio space during off-hours, and greater freedom to make the resident artist corner suit a given artist’s needs for the summer season. Our goal is to provide a useful work environment for the right artist and consistent open hours for our community. The artist space is concise, so something like small-medium paintings work better than say, large-scale sculpture.

DETAILS

  • Stipend: $500/month for 3 months (June-August). If one artist is not able to commit to all our open days (see below), this stipend and the resident artist area may need to be designated to two individuals. We will coordinate between the selected artists as needed!

  • Wednesday-Saturday, 10AM-1PM, the space is open to the public. The rest of the week, it’s largely available for the resident artists’ private use (classes are sometimes scheduled in the space, and our programming director will coordinate this).

  • Residents represent the Silverton Art Center as a welcoming, creative environment, and should be prepared to engage warmly with visitors during our open hours. Residents are encouraged to work while the space is open, but sometimes they may need to engage primarily with visitors. That said, Silverton is a small town, and open hours often go by with only a few visitors.

  • We have help to clean the facilities, but you may need to do minor cleanup of art supplies, sweep leaves off the entry deck, and clean a coffee mug or two. Pretty minor stuff!
